Opening Ceremonies at Lock 3 - Welland Canal

Today was the Top Hat Ceremony for the 186th opening of the Welland Canal / St. Lawrence Seaway. The season is officially open!

Sea Eagle II & St. Mary's Cement II opened the upbound route through the Welland Canal, heading to Cleveland, Ohio.

WELLAND CANAL 
The Welland Canal is generally open water with broken ice above lock 7 up to Port Colborne. 
Mariners are cautioned that heavy ice conditions exist on Lake Erie.

CCGS Pierre Radisson - Ice Breaker

The Welland Canal opens tomorrow, 02 April 2015. 
Today the Pierre Radisson headed upbound through the canal heading into Lake Erie...where there is a lot of work to do...so much ice on the lake still. 
Once a year the Pierre Radisson comes from Quebec to the Welland Canal.
